You might be able to employ some filters with your camera. A
polarizing filter will help to remove the reflections from the non
metallic surface of the ceramic, while maintaining the reflections from
the metallic surfaces. I use a radial polarizer when photographing
outdoors. The filter deepens the blue in the sky, and removes
reflections from bodies of water or window panes. Check out 'Using
Filters in Machine Vision', and 'Contrast Enhancement Through Filtering'
in the attached guide.

Subject: Bent leads on CCGA - Inspect with Panasonic CM602

Dear Technetters,
Is anybody have some experience of placing CCGA with P&P Panasonic
CM602?
So far, we had placed hundreds of them but we still did not find a way
to inspect them efficiently for bent leads. We do have a side lighting
camera mounted in the machine. Our service engineer told us that the
reference code must be changed to a BGA type of part. By doing this,
each post is recognized to ensure the leads are straight. We did this,
but still have hard time to differentiate the TinLead from the white
ceramic substrate because the contrast is so light. Any idea how to
proceed?

We have no way right now the prevent bent leads unless inspecting the
raw parts in the tray magazine before running the line. And we don't
like to do this since there is high risk of damaging the leads by
manipulating the CCGA.

Regards,
Eric Castonguay, process eng.
