Hi Dean,
Kirkendahl and 'Champagne' voids are not the same. While both are planar
collections of a large number of micro-voids, Kirkendahl voids are the result of
difference in diffusion processes—and thus take time at temperature, whereas
the classical 'Champagne' voids are the result of a confluence of this Don
Cullen's "Perfect Storm" of chemical/topographical/thermal processes. Thus, the
latter would be visible right after reflow.
