We evaluated some Laser and Selective soldering systems 3 years ago and we
went with Selective soldering systems for the following reasons.
Much larger thru-put capacity. One joint at a time on Laser vs.
   multiples on a Selective.
Higher consumable cost on a Laser, Diode pump, Laser rod.
Focus and pin-point accuracy of the Laser was very important, any
shifting, sagging, or bowing of the pwa results in poor/no soldering or
   burn boards.

The negative of the Selective soldering is that you need Nitrogen to
promote wetting and reduce dross.

Francis Sun

Hi All,
How many of you "out there" have any experience with laser soldering
machines verse selective soldering machines? Currently we have several
types of selective soldering equipment but due to our designs we are having
significant issues with adjacent components.
I have seen some equipment but do not have experience with the venders or
process.
