What is the input voltage of the supply?

What is the expected period of the spike?

What is the input references to, ground?

Is it safe to assume we are playing with lightening?

Although we are always looking for a blue-sky approach, I'm afraid this
question is more nebulous in Nature. I've been asked about a design
strategy for DC power supply input and that had to withstand a 2500 amp
transient spike. One is a Thorough design survival strategy and the
other is a subjective treatise on the long term impacts to the
operational capabilities.
