My condolences. SAP does one thing well; marketing. They have convinced
a lot of people it is the solution for everything. At its best, when
(more like if ever) fully deployed with the support of IT, ERP and other
systems it is a glorified warehousing and distribution system. It does
not demonstrate the flexibility, intelligence recognition capability,
report generating capability or user friendly attributes to be a
hardware configuration management tool.
Get yourself a good Oracle (I used Delphi) based MES [manufacturing
execution (I always loved that term) system] and with an intelligent BOM
(bill of materials; not smart weapon) and assign an unique social
security number to the entity in question. Make them recognize that
number and then they can use any alias they want for there system.

Ah, nothing better than some three letter acronyms (TLAs)...

Question related to building boards - monitoring quality.

We use SAP for tracking work and recording defects and their rework.
Currently we are manually pulling defect data out of SAP using queries,
to track our performance. Yes, we are pretty low volume, I would not
want to do this at higher volumes.

Question is: what are other SAP users doing to pull defect data out? Is
there any automated way to do this? Add-on software?

Thanks, and merry Christmas to all TechNetter's!!!
