Blair,

I can not say that lens cleaners contain silicone, but if you do happen
to have silicone fluids, etc, around they do tend to spread if one is
not reasonably careful.

Have worked with silicone gels for automotive applications [called it
elephant snot] in the same facility as very high rel microelectronics
without incurring problems, but ... but ... but ... proper housekeeping
and handling to prevent cross-contamination is/was very important for
all the reasons other people have mentioned.

Have to read the MSDS for one of the lens cleaners and see if there is
some free silicone in there.

Regarding breast implants - Dow took a really big hit for that. Not
sure of the ultimate epidemiological outcome, but saline does sound a
bit more logical - however the pouch is still a silicone elastomer.

Steve

Subject: [TN] Silicone Lens Cleaner Problem

I'm hoping that somenone on TechNet this morning can help my
understand a little more about this. I received a letter from a customer

stating that silicone can introduce contaminants which are detrimental
to the manufacturing process. The notice specifically mentioned lens
cleaner.

Can someone enlighten me as to what problems silicone can cause?

Thanks,

Blair
