Hi 'Netters,

Our main TV metering device uses an OTS PC motherboard with custom
interfaces. We plug two standard SDRAM memory sticks into the
motherboard and they're secured with the normal hold downs found on
PC's. For the last 6 or 7 months, we've been experiencing lock-up
conditions with these boxes that are cleared simply by unplugging and
reseating one or both memory sticks. Earlier we suspected a condition
known as fretting, but weren't able to conclusively prove it. Now
we're considering using a connector lubricant in a controlled sample,
but not being chemical guys, other than recreational, we're not sure
what would be best. My QA guy, presently in China, writes:

"The stuff I've seen that has "PPE" and is made for this is around $20
for a small spray can. When we start having them spray everything that
gets plugged in it will be really expensive. I am pretty sure that an
alternative lube would be ok, but I am not chemical engineer and am not
sure if just mineral oil is fine or not."

Has anyone out there experienced this kind of problem, or used a
lubricant? If so, what were the results and what lubricant worked best?

Thanks in advance,

Bob Croslin
