Let's pretend I know nothing about this subject. I know I won't get any
static about that statement. The answer is "It Depends"(cha-ching).
Since I require AS9100 for an accredited Quality System, the finding
should be against the Preventative Maintenance procedure and Quality
System. The testers should be tested/calibrated at a minimum to the
equipment manufacturer's recommendations. There shall be an artifact
(objective evidence) that it had been serviced and current to the
scheduling.

If you have written procedures to establish compliance with
ANSI/ESD-S-20.20 and it states all equipment shall be calibrated, then I
would expect to see a statement about the tester not needing calibration
and an official "No Calibration Required" sticker on the tester.

Document what you do and do what you document. It is not in the Auditors
scope to question the validity or merit of your procedures, only if
follow or don't follow them.

Subject: [TN] ESD wrist strap testers.

Hi all,
I am having a discussion with an auditor regarding the need to have
wrist strap testers calibrated or labeled calibration not required. Does
anyone know if calibration/verification is required for ESD wrist strap
testers?

Regards,
