Juan,
why should you accept cracked diodes at all? If the glass is in that condition, something is VERY wrong! I've seen all models of glass diodes since the very first ones, and only seen a few cases with glass cracks. We use to have too defintions: glass cracks and glass chipouts. If the 'cracks' are just micro chipouts at the lead entrance in the glass, you may accept the diodes, because such cracks do not hazard the hermetic seal of the chip. However, if the crack is in the body around the chip, you can't use the diodes, because the hermeticity is lost, and you understand the consequencies, don't you? There are standards about this, but I don't have it at the moment.
/Regards
Inge

Subject: [TN] Cracks in the body of glass diodes (JANTX1N4148UR1)

Good Morning,

In a certain number of SMD diodes we have detected what we consider as a crack in the glass body of the diode. This condition was already present in the diodes packaged in a reel, that is, before mounting in the PWAs.

What we cannot determine yet is if this condition could be acceptable. Could you help us through your valuable opinions?

PD: I have sent 3 photographs to Steve Gregory.

Thank you in advance.
