I suspect that most experience with Tin/Lead will be with HASL finished boards, and Tin/Lead plating and HASL are not the same finish. Tin/Lead plating, unless it is fused/reflowed is small discrete crystals of Tin and Lead, which oxidize easily, unlike HASL, which does not.
And always remember, free advice is often not worth what you paid for it!

I've been told and saw in one article that tin/lead (soft) is preferred
over ENIG (nickel hard).
