Glass etch would leave the fibres looking like pointy spears -- it would
not shear them square...

Jack,
I read the other replies. I think you are okay with this and my opinion
is that the platers got carried away with the glass etch. It is easy to
do, the high concentrate sulfuric has to be replenished often because it
pulls water from the atmosphere and won't work. Your board was probably
after an add.
I have see this look like pink rings round all holes. Yours is not that
bad.

I'm not accustomed to looking at reliability issues,
(my designs are usually so perfect... (grin))
so every time I see an X-Ray or a cross-section
I get nervous wondering what I'm actually seeing.
Can anyone explain what the following picture means?
