Hi Brian,

I can only speculate on the technique used but I several years ago on a trip
to the UK, I was shown a thin metal foil mask that was a near filigree of
approximately 25 micron holes that was reportedly produced at Cambridge in
early 1945. It looked like solid metal until you held it to the light. I can't
recall the purpose but I seem to recollect that it was in support of US atomic
research.

Lining up with the thoughts others have expressed, if not a full bio,
certain your technical memoir would interest many folks. If seems that you would
have good start by collecting the great reminiscences you have already shared
here in the past.

BTW, Ken Gilleo has put together a nice collection of stories about
technical sleuthing titled: "The Day Niagara Falls Turned Green" It can be downloaded
at no charge from his website _http://www.et-trends.com/_
(http://www.et-trends.com/)

Following is from the ET Trends website:

"They (the stories) are taken from the vast world of industry and commercial
enterprise. The engine that powers the world is industry and it must keep
running smoothly or the civilized world grinds to a stop. When a factory is
shut down, there are usually dire consequences.

Our heroes are mostly unsung since they are the engineers, technicians and
ordinary workers who have had to jump in when things go amiss as they so often
do. Enjoy these case histories and you need not be an engineer or scientist
to understand the problem and to appreciate the solution."

Ken is seeking stories for a future edition and I am certain you and others
here have many to share with him.

Best,
Joe
