Subject: RE: [TN] Lead-Free Warranty

Seems as the question falls under: United Nations Convention On
Contracts For The International Sale Of Goods, 1980 ( CISG ).

You can find it all here:

http://www.jus.uio.no/lm/un.contracts.international.sale.of.goods.conven
tion.1980/doc.html

The warranty is up to each manufacturer, and depends on the agreements
with customers from case to case. I think that you can only change the
warranty if a product is given a different article identification. E.g.
Swiss Officer's Survival Knife has 10 years of warranty. If the
manufacturer makes a change in the steel alloy, I think he has a long,
complicated and expensive work to do in order to dare continue his 10
year warranty. Likewise, each electronics manufacturer got to perform
test series after changing to leadfree manufacturing. The whole question
eminates from the contract, and it's not custom to tell the whole world
about details here.

The serious will sleep well because of done LF homework, the less
serious will get surprise.

Section II - Conformity of the goods and third party claims 122

Article 35 123

(1) The seller must deliver goods which are of the quantity, quality and
description required by the contract and which are contained or packaged
in the manner required by the contract.

Subject: [TN] Lead-Free Warranty

Fellow Technetters,
I know this is a sensitive subject, but how are ppl dealing with
warranties on LF assemblies?? Same, or lower than SnPb assemblies? I
want to do a sanity check on our warranty to ensure we are neither too
soft or too harsh....any responses (online or offline) will be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Amol
