True - the CA Condor was all but extinct in the '70's and has been the
subject of a release to the wild program ever since the early '90's

There are currently 3 release sites - California, one in Arizona and one in
Baja, Mexico. From only 22 condors left in existence in the '80's , their
numbers have risen to 289 this year - good news and a great job ...

Unfortunately for the way the CA legislation is chipping away at the second
amendment by circuitous means - guns in CA may in fact soon be a thing of
the past - there is a bill on the Governors' desk right now to pass a law
that all handguns sold in CA should have the means of stamping the guns
serial number on the cartridge cases......

Obviously the legislators don't realize that a revolver does not eject the
brass...............

And yes I am a life member of the NRA.

It isn't so much of a worry about the animals that get killed by the
bullets. There is x-ray evidence that the lead is consumed by scavengers
when the wounded animals die later, of particular interest is the California
Condor.

I believe it should be illegal to bomb the World with poorly thought out
lead free legislation........................8-)

By the way California passed a law this week to ban lead in bullets for
hunting .............

Wouldn't it though be illegal to bomb a country with lead-free legislation
in place unless the weapons systems were compliant?

Military is not EXEMPT, it is OUT OF SCOPE. The directive does not
apply at all to military (other than the indirect massive impact the
directive has had). The directive has no legislative control over military
electronics.

No specific alloy is "forbidden" in military electronics.
In general, solders and fluxes are categorized per and must comply with
J-STD-004, J-STD-005, and J-STD-006.
Specific solder alloy types are called out on assembly prints and BOMs per
MIL-STDs and Weapon Specs.
Military, traffic control, industrial safety, some medical, and many other
products are exempt per RoHS and IEEE exemptions.

Check out
Air Force's Airworthiness Advisory AA-05-01 It isn't very forceful in the
wording, but is the closest thing I could find so far to support my cause.
If anyone knows of any documentation forbidding lead free in military
products, I would sure appreciate a heads-up.
Thanks,
Dave

Subject: Military Exemption from Lead-Free?

I believe that I remember someone mentioning a military end-use exemption
from lead free requirements. Am I remembering correctly or is this just
wishful thinking? If it is true, can anyone point me in the direction to
get it in writing?

Thanks!
