Hi John,
DIMM memory sockets are often made of body materials with quite large
delta-CTE's relative to FR-4. This can cause solder joint creep-fatigue failures.
My IPC committee is working on IPC-9705 "Performance Test Methods and
Qualification Recommendations for Area Array Surface Mount Connectors"--it is in the
Proposal Draft stage. What could also be used is IPC-9701.
