A Review of Substance Restrictions WorldWide Affecting Electrical
Equipment
Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - 10:00 am - 11:00 am (US Central Time)
Presented by: Dr. Paul Goodman, ERA Technology Ltd.

Many countries around the world are introducing legislation based on,
and with similarities to, the EU RoHS directive. However, they are
seldom identical and manufacturers need to be aware of the differences
and the status of legislation.

This presentation will provide an update on RoHS-like requirements
worldwide (China, US, Japan, Korea etc.) including recent developments
that are occurring in the EU.

New Requirements: Update on EU REACH Chemicals Regulations and Energy
Using

Products (EuP) Directive
Thursday, December 13, 2007 - 10:00 am - 11:00 am (US Central Time)

Presented by: Chris Robertson, ERA Technology Ltd.

Electrical products are subject to an increasing burden of regulation
with an environmental flavor. While RoHS restricts just six substances,
the new REACH chemicals regulations affects over 30,000 existing
chemicals. REACH supersedes 40 existing pieces of EU regulation, in
particular the Marketing and Use Directive, and places the onus on the
party manufacturing or importing a chemical to prove that it is safe. It
also puts obligations on users of chemicals and producers of products
(called "articles"). REACH will increase the pressure for substitution
of hazardous substances.

This presentation will review the requirements of both regulations, the
current status and key actions for anyone in the electrical supply
chain.
