I have never seen such a exacting and extensive question before! I think
there are a lot of ways of protecting electronics. Ventilation fans,
drip holes, getters, oils, paintings, various finishes, Faraday cages,
circulating gases, exhaust systems, vacuum, overpressure, heaters, dust
filters, deionizers, ESD material, EMC material, moisture absorbers, a
number of enclosures and cabinets, moldings, pottings, antistatics,
metallic gaskets, polymeric gaskets etc, radiation protection etc. I'm
curious about others's answers. One example: mobile radar station.
Multistage filters for air inlet, slight overpressure to stop dust
coming into rack system, all cabinet doors have silicon rubber gaskets,
extensive ESD protection system, everything grounded, all boards coated,
overpressure in the wave guides, automatic systems for taking care of
condensed water, air condition, lightning protection, surge supressors,
carefully designed condense drainage, careful selection of metals to
avoid galvanic corrosion and a lot more, special paint for minimum IR
absorption etc.

A good start is to buy David A. Douthit's book 'Contamination of
Electronic Assemblies' CRC Press ISBN 0-8493-1483-6. Understanding the
environmental issues is probably best way to begin with.

Blair thanks for the info.

Have anyone information what protection is used on PCB assemblies for
industries with electronic outdoor products like avionics, SPA
controllers, Telecom, lighting advertisements, etc.

Best regards,
Angel

Conformal coating with proper cleaning helps. Moisture will migrate
through the coating, so it is important to get any ionic contamination
off the board before coating.

Good design practices including maintaining enough spacing between
conductors of different voltage potential.

Potting might be something you find in under hood automotive
applications, or more sever environments.

Outdoor locations will typically give condensation due to the diurnal
temperature cycling. Hopefully any outdoor electronics will not be
directly exposed to the weather.

Could I have examples of what PCB assembly protection (perhaps conformal
coating) is used for products to be used in outdoor (Stop lights,
Automobile, etc) under harsh environmental conditions
