It depends! There, got that in before Doug!

If the coating has a solvent or water base, then you will experience  
some drying and curing issues, maybe cracking as well.

If you go too fast, you drive the solvent out too fast for the film  
to form properly.

With some coatings, the hot surface might help matters. Warm surfaces  
definitely aid tip and edge coverage.

What is the coating, how thick and what is the surface temperature  
you are applying to?
