Hello all,

We are building a PWB Assy made up of both Rigid and Flexible PWB components. We do not have much experience dealing with the Flexible part; this Assy is a Customer design.

When we dealt strictly with Rigid PWB Assy's, we tested cleanliness using the ROSE (Resistivity of Solvent Extract) method, where a solution of alcohol and distilled water was sprayed over the PWB and the resistivity of the resulting solution was measured.

Our Manufacturing Manager does not want to spray any solution containing water over the Flex PWB section of the Assy because he is afraid that the Flex PWB layers may separate. There is some evidence that he may be right.

Does anyone have any experience with cleanliness test for Rigid Flex PWB Assy's? There are no components on the Flex part of the Assy - it is used as a "ribbon cable".
