I guess one of the questions is if the pitted area has the same layer of gold thickness as the regular area.  If not then premature "wear" in the pitted areas can occur.  Early failures in the field, etc.

Please see the picture.  We believe the copper underneath the gold is
where the pitting occurs.  It appears fully plated with gold, even in
the pits.
It doesn't seem to meet the IPC-600 spec, but I was wondering what are
the potential problems this could cause.

I don't know if I would accept it either. Is it the gold that's pitted,
or the copper beneath it? Or can you tell?
