I don't believe I have ever seen the fishbone charts that you describe,
but I do know that Electrovert has a similar chart for determining the
root cause(s) of wave soldering defects.
And the IPC-HDBK-001 has Tables that used to be wishbone charts for
individual processes, such as Table 7-4 (Common printing problems),
Table 7-9 (VPS problems/solutions), etc, that could become individual
branches on the fish.

I think a lot of us are just waiting for the same answer as you; we
would all love to see a wishbone chart by which we can trace back the
possible cause for a given assembly or solder defect.

But this particular wishbone chart, if it even exists, would have more
individual bones than a Minnesota Northern Pike.

I guess the competitive nature of our business is likely keeping lips
pursed and keyboards still on this matter at higher levels. That aside,
I have always been  impressed with the way this forum is so full of
