Hello Ramon,

The problem is that someone else will be using the camera for valid reasons when you need to use it. However, a dedicated, attached camera is always available to take a photo!

Have them in a central area locked up. Only approved users on a list are authorized to sign them out and they must be signed back in. It works really well.
	Just a suggestion.

Problem with using a digital camera which is good for stuff besides microscopes is that it won't be there when you need it.

EXACTLY! And when you finally get the camera back, the batteries are run out. And when you ask for the battery charger, someone else took it. We have several cameras, but they NEVER are where they should be.

Inge-

I am real cheap too. But I am willing to sacrifice some quality. I hit bottom when I bought a bunch of the Intel play digital microscopes--about 320x200 pixel! Anyway, we spent a little more money and got Moticam 2000, which is 2 megapixel USB 2.0. We like this very much, even though you could impress people if you had more pixels. This makes them easier to attach in email than a 10 megapixel job. This unit comes with either "3rd eye" or eyepiece hookups.

Steve,

That was a real budget solution, I say. I feel stupid, but I've never thought of that way. Of course, what differs the professional microscope cameras from your idea, is just that the microscope camera is in a fixed position. You know, in fact the trinocular has a somewhat lower light than the binocular, so it may be advantageous to shoot through the later ones.

Man, I'll try that on Monday! Just wonder why so many of us pay fortunes for that stuff when there are cheap solutions. Solutions for revolutions. One of my friends lives on selling microscope cameras, he wouldn't be happy if many more used TN technology..he-he

Thanks again, I needed that inspiration

Hi Inge!

Every picture I've taken and posted on my web page is from a Nikon Coolpix 4800 through the eyepiece of a regular microscope. I've been doing that since I left California in 1999.

It's simple, just focus in what you want to look at, carefully hold the camera lense up against the microscope eyepiece, look at the display on the back of the camera until you like what you see, and then snap the picture! I usually take at least a couple of photos to be sure I get a nice clear one, but you tell me, do you like the pictures I post? My Nikon camera was only $349...

Hi, is there possibly a subdivision for skinflints in TechNet?
I want a good microscope camera and a program for PC. There are numerous of brands, most of them very good, like Olympus, Nikon, Kappa etc. But the price! 5,000 USD and up. It's robbery. You get a super system SLR digital camera for 1,000. Much more advanced than a microscope camera.
The microscope camera does not even use a advanced lense, the projection just leaves the trinocular and hit the chip. There must be a way to buy good digital stuff and put together with a cheap image processing program. You may buy a cheap digital camera, design a C-ring adapter and use the framegrabber in Pinnacle 10, just one example. Won't cost more than 1,000. I know in principal what to do, but there use to be people who are very creative on these things. Anyone who have a good proposal?

The cheapskate

Inge
