Hi All,

I have been asked to do the layout of a mcpcb for mounting LEDs to which
of course must be RoHS compliant. This is the first one that our company
has designed so our knowledge of how to specify what we require is
lacking.

I copied the fabrication notes from one of our sister companies, but our
board supplier says they can't do what we requested due to limited
manufacturing capacity and is asking if they can substitute Lead Free
HASL instead. Is this a good alternative?

This is what was specified by our sister company:

- ENIG Ni/Au PLATING FOR RoHS COMPLIANCE
- SINGLE LAYER, 1.6mm METAL-CORE PCB (ALUMINUM)
- 1oz COPPER
- BLACK SOLDER MASK TOP LAYER ONLY
- WHITE SILKSCREEN TOP LAYER ONLY
- ELECTRICAL TESTING REQUIRED
- BOARDS MUST CONFORM TO UL 94V-0 FLAME RATING AND
HAVE SUCH DESIGNATED ON EACH INDIVIDUAL PCB

Also the board supplier is also stating that they will be using FR4 with
the metal core. I can't picture this in my mind, but the sample what we
have from our sister company looks like it is a metal core pcb with an
epoxy over it and that is what we want to try to duplicate.

Any ideas on improving our fabrication notes for mcpcbs would be
welcome.

Thanks,
