On a related topic, sealed speakers: In a past life, folks tried to find
alternative uses for fluorinated gases. Testing was performed on replacing the
air inside sealed speaker enclosures with gases such as C51-12
(perfluorodimethylcyclobutane). The response curves when working against the fluorocarbon
gas were different from air. This is ca 30+ yrs ago, so I don't recall the
details. I'm sure other gases were tried as well, but it never went commercial or
was picked up for further development by speaker makers.
All the lab reports/data are still in the archives, I'm sure, although the
chemist has gone to the big lab in the sky.
