Kitty,
I would love to share them but I no longer work for the company and I am
not sure how they would feel about me releasing them, I will ask. I can tell
you that PCB Libraries http://www.pcblibraries.com/resources/GEN-docs.asp
(look in the Technical papers section) has a great set of guide lines that
can be downloaded as well as Eaton cutler hammer
http://www.smtinfo.net/Db/_DFM.html . When I wrote the guidelines I did a
lot of research and tried to locate as many DFM guide lines as possible then
compare them against what I was writing. The strange thing I noticed is that
the good ones are almost identical to one another. Same format, same wording
and even the same art work. The above links should fill your need for DFM
knowledge until I can get the OK to send out what I have.
I think the mark of good guidelines is how well they are reviewed for
content and accuracy. It took me about a year to get them written reviewed
and released. Each spring I would get as many people as possible together to
review the document. We would revise it and release a new revision each year
along with a list of changes that have been made.

Regards,

Ted

Ted,
If there's any way you can share your DFM guidelines, we'd love to see them.
Thanks,
Kitty

I recently started a new position, I am back into designing PCB's and
electronics. I spent the last two years with a great CM as an NPI Engineer.
There I had a chance to learn the processes, write DFX reports on new
designs and offer suggestions to customers on how to make their design more
manufacturable. Prior to leaving I wrote the 32 page DFM guidelines they
use, implemented DFM reviews and learned just enough around a SMT line to
get me into a ton of trouble. I was lucky enough to work with some very
smart people. Between test, manufacturing, design and quality I think we
were able to come up with one of the best DFM guidelines available. One of
the most valuable bits of information is how to design, document, and
present my designs to a CM. It is also very interesting when I tell them I
used to work for a CM. What ever contract manufacture we decide to go with I
hope will be very pleased with what they receive from us.

As for lurking, there is a radio station in Milwaukee and when the DJ's
come up with a question they don't have an answer for they go to the
"Throbbing Brain". The "Throbbing Brain" is all the listeners on the air and
or online. From that they pretty much have their answer by the end of their
show if not within a day or two. Most of the time I am writing a response
only to see the answer pop up in my inbox. So I delete the message and go
about my work. Once in a while I will post an answer, sometimes I will wait
to see what others think. Is my answer the same as everyone else or can I
offer more insight. Here you are usually pretty well covered on the first
response.

Just my 2 cents,

Great now I have to wait another 2 months before I can post again.
