Further FYI:

  John Burke reported that the Sodium or Potassium converts to the Hydroxide salt when contacted by water. However, they are not commonly found in saponifiers, BECAUSE these salts are known to attack Tin. Common reaction is this

  KOH(Potassium Hydroxide) + Sn(Tin) + Water -> KSnO3 (Potassium Stannate, very water soluble)

  This opens the possibility of cleaning solutions attacking the remaining Tin, and leaving it looking leached, or at least not shiney. Won't this cause some heated customer/vendor exchanges?

  Just an FYI,

My regular Circuits Assembly column on lead free is at this link:

There are some interesting developments in lead free soldering covered.

Kind regards,

John Burke
