Hi Phil
We do epoxy ink stamping and I hate it, for what you get it is a pain
in the butt. We also have some customers who allow polyimide labels,
they are vastly preferred (the label, not the customer). Get a good
printer and you can put pretty much whatever you want on them. We
typically mark cage code, part number, and serial number - but there is
room for company logo, manufacture date code, whatever.

We ask for .25" x 1" but have to make due with less some times. It is
still preferable to spend time trimming labels vs ink marking, in my
view.

Polyester label won't stand processing heat as well. Given that our
first step is to put the s/n on, we need the polyimide.

Good afternoon,

We are considering revising the way we mark our assembled boards.
Typically we want finished board assembly revision, assembly date
code,
assembly part number, and if built by a CM an manufacturer's code.
Historically we have the basic part number in silkscreen on the
component side along with the word Rev with space for a revision
letter.
We currently scratch the assembly dash number and revision into the
surface of the board.

Now with CMs doing some of the assembly they have other methods of
marking. In my former lives Engineering has been reluctant to give up
any board space for board identification. I'm interested in defining
a
label area size and labeling method, e.g., polyester label, polyimide
label or epoxy ink stamp.

What sort of space do you leave for this kind of marking?

What sort of marking methods do you use?

Thanks in advance,

Phil Nutting
