Designing with Your 'Thumbs'

May 21, 2007 - Bannockburn, IL

Instructor: Susie Webb, Webb Designs

Have you ever wanted someone to write down all the little bits of
information that seasoned designers understand so well and use so
readily for placement, routing, planes, stackup, high speed, EMI? This
course is a compilation of information gleaned from many technical
sources and years of design work. It will provide general "Rules of
Thumb" for the way things might be done to achieve successful board
design, and give brief explanations of why they need to be done that
way. The workshop will also introduce the concepts used to lay out PCBs
with good signal integrity and EMI control.

DFM, Often Over Shadowed, but More Important than Ever

May 21, 2007 - Bannockburn, IL

Instructor: Gary Ferrari, FTG Circuits

This workshop will help define DFM issues as they relate to cost in the
fabrication and assembly processes. The group will look at available
materials, such as laminates and surface finishes, how they affect cost,
board performance, the selection of and placement of components, plated
through hole types and their use, etc. and their respective cost
drivers. The workshop course would not be complete without a discussion
on multilayer stackups, the impact of lead free soldering processes on
good DFM practices, and how to specify our needs on the master drawing.
