We use a Metronolec ST-60 with good success. They have a pretty good
website with lots of details and also do contract testing. You can find
them at Solderability Testing Inc. if you Google it.

The most success we've had with wetting balance testing is as comparison
testing, with a known good lot against a suspect lot. Typically rather
easy to show a statistical difference, if there is one. Also we inspect
the dipped parts for the required 95% wetting, and then use the charts
to numercially support the visual case. Found that this is an easier
way to go about it since J-std-002 had a specific visual dip & look
wetting requirement, whereas the wetting balance is a "Test Without
Established Accept/Reject Criteria".

Subject: [TN] solderability testing

Hi Technos,

I need to setup a sort of solderability testing process.

J-STD-002 is pretty clear, but I would like to know how are you set up
for the job. Mainly I would like to be able to make a decision on dip
and look OR wetting balance?
What kind of equipment are you using?
How to make the tests less of a black magic and more of a repeatable
process, with easy to interpret results?

Thanks,

Ioan
