Happy Friday Jim! This is only a guess but one possible reason for such

a recommendation is the potential to have solder joint integrity

degradation due to gold embrittlement. A high tin content solder alloy

and gold surface finishes do not necessarily mean a gold embrittlement

situation but it would be on aspect of a solder process that would need

to be kept in mind.

I happened to come across a solder chart from the Indium Corporation and

noticed that they do not recommend using Sn96 solder on gold-plated

surfaces.  Can anyone elaborate on this?
