Hi Ralph!

In addition to the info that everyone has given, I have a few pictures
of some blisters/delamination on solder mask. Go to:

This was discovered after assembly. It wasn't because of a problem with
the mask when the board was made, it was caused by an incompatibilty
with the chemistry that we were using to clean the assemblies (Kyzen
Aquanox XJN) and the type of soldermask that was on the board (Dynachem
Dynamask dry film). The mask would lift off of all copper features in
the board. It would start to manifest itself after the third cleaning.
Quite expensive lesson for us, that's for sure!

Here's a rather strange solder mask defect that we found one time:

Didn't really know where to go in the -600 to classify this one...

Subject: [TN] Soldermask Blisters

IPC A-600, section 2.9.4 refers to Blisters/Delamination in Soldermask.

I am looking for clarification as to what these actually are? How do
they manifest themselves? I can't say I've ever seen one, so I am
trying to know what one would look like if I hade seen one.

thanks

Ralph
