Thanks for weighing in with your thoughts. 
 
You may well be right that there was no conspiracy but I am reasonably  
certain that any input than may have been given by the tin industry to the  EU 
Parliament on lead-free was not done out of the goodness of their dear  little 
hearts... ;-)   
 
And you are right that the solder industry and their customers  are equally 
the victims of this sadly misguided effort by the  EU's well meaning 
politicans. (as least seemingly so)
 
Fortunately there remains an environmentally friendly alternative to the  
lead-free fiasco the industry has been left to suffer. 
 
There is always a sun above the clouds. :-)
