Good point...depending on the exact nature of the ACF material. (As you  know 
there are many types.) 
 
A large point of difference is that an ACF film is too thin to  provide any 
compliance (but then they are typically reserved to applications  where the CTE 
of the substrate is closely matched to the  chip)
