We have just recently discovered that one of our fabricators is
currently using organic acid-based fluxes "type H1"on our Class 3
product and Class 2 product.

J-STD-001D has several sections discussing the topic of interest.
Paragraph 3.3 states: "Flux shall(2) be in accordance with J-STD-004 or
equivalent. Flux shall(3) conform to flux activity levels L0 or L1 of
flux materials rosin (RO), resin (RE), or organic (OR), except organic
flux activity L1 shall not be used for no-clean soldering. When other
activity levels of flux are used, data demonstrating compatibility shall
be available for review (see 3.1). Type H or M fluxes shall not be used
for tinning of stranded wires."

Shall(2) is "Defect" for Class 1, 2, and 3.

Shall(3) is "Not Est" for Class 1, 2 and "Defect" for Class 3 only.

My question is:

1. What is "Not Est" ?

2. If this means "Not Established" then what is the impact on our
Class 2 product?

3. Will we be seeing problems with any potential residue, even though
our fab house claims they have a thorough cleaning process?

4. We have sent samples to a lab for analysis using the "ionograph"
method.

Thanking you in advance for your assistance

Hagen
