Hi Richard,
"Fully Convective" reflow ovens are a misnomer. Depending on the zone 
temperature, up to 20% of the heat transfer in these 'Convection Reflow Ovens' is 
actually by near infrared radiation. Now the wavelength of this IR is quite 
different than the wavelengths of the old quartz lamp ovens where the radiation 
comes from much higher lamp temperatures, however, the platens with all the hoes 
through which the hot gas flows into the convection reflow ovens also radiate.
