Werner, you mentioned, from a certain source, that the major fraction of
BGA disruption failures stem from insufficient top temperature or
non-matching flux. Do you happen to have statistics or any other
background for that statement? I know you are right, and I have seen
quotes like 9 of 10 belonging to the improper group above.

"Fully Convective" reflow ovens are a misnomer. Depending on the zone
temperature, up to 20% of the heat transfer in these 'Convection Reflow
Ovens' is actually by near infrared radiation. Now the wavelength of
this IR is quite different than the wavelengths of the old quartz lamp
ovens where the radiation comes from much higher lamp temperatures,
however, the platens with all the hoes through which the hot gas flows
into the convection reflow ovens also radiate.
