Does the A or B refer to the metal's position in the composition formula?

Sn60Pb40 = Sn60A
Sn62Pb36Ag02 = Pb36B
Sn63Pb37 = Sn63A

Subject: [TN] Solder Designations

Dear Technetters:

I have had a student of mine ask a question which has stumped me, but
should (hopefully)
be easy for our metallurgist folks out there.

J-STD-001 3.2 Solder refers to Sn60A, Pb36B and Sn63A. To what specific
solder alloy
do these designations apply? I have looked at J-STD-005B to attempt to
find these
specific designations (specifically the inclusion of "A" or "B")
but without success.

Any thoughts?
