Brian,

Thanks for the historical information.

You mention that the model that you referred to as a successful model
withdrawn from the market for partially unknown reasons. Can you comment
on what the known reasons were?

Was the instrument too expensive or too complicated? Who made the
Contaminometer? Are they still in business?

When I was looking at equipment I only know of 3 machines. the Omegameter,
Ionograph and the offering from Aqueous Technologies.

Bill

I would remind you that the first computerised Contaminometer was
marketed as long ago as 1979. The most sophisticated computerised
instrument was the CM-5, marketed from 1988 to 1994: it could operate in
either "dynamic" or "static" modes, could extrapolate to asymptotic
end-points from short tests, could determine the nature of the
contaminants from the shape of the dissolution curve, do advanced
statistical surveys on series of tests to determine changes in process
parameters. Unfortunately, this very successful model was withdrawn from
the market for partially unknown reasons, along with the MCM-2 for
components and small assemblies, and not replaced. Today's CM-11/12 are
barely a patch on the versatility of the earlier models.
