David,
I've spent the last two years studying lead-free electronics, the RoHS
Directive, and the WEEE Directive, and as of Monday January 15th I have
collected OVER 10,000 DOCUMENTS on these subjects. My opinion of the
legislative bans on lead in electronic solder is summarized very
succinctly by the following sentence from page 210 of John Guinther's
book, The Jury in America (ISBN 0-8160-1727-7):
"The occasional case of this kind... should be placed before a
legislative body where rationality has never been a necessary criterion
for solving anything."
I'll be updating my Bibliography at
http://www.dbicorporation.com/rohsbib.htm
again tomorrow. As of last Sunday it was over 590 pages long (2.5MB),
with references to:
* 22 Directives and laws.
* 211 books.
* 13 Ph.D. and Master's theses.
* 9,536 papers, magazine articles, and reports.
* 211 web pages.
AND
with 4,531 links to documents that may be downloaded for free from the
Internet.
