A question for all you LF gurus.

This morning a co-worker asked me how silver is plated on those little metallic balls (called silver dragees or sometimes "jimmies") that are used on cake and cookie decorations. (I assume it's not an electro chemical process!)

First I was amazed that silver is actually used on such things and second I had no idea how to answer the question.

If anyone out there knows please explain how silver is plated on sugar to produce these things.

And FYI in looking on the internet I found that they have been banned in (Can you guess?) California as a result of an "activist lawyer" who sued all and a sundry for selling these "toxic materials."

In almost all cases said lawyer was glad to allow his opponents to settle out of court for "undisclosed amounts."

Thanks in advance.

Greg Munie
