Fred,

I'd be asking "why" as well.  I've had some fab houses want to put 8mils
in the via barrel as it's cheaper.  That's what this is sounding like.
It doesn't create a good via and can cause problems if you've calculated
your current based on 1mil in the barrel.  It will also be more
difficult to etch if you have any fine pitch parts, diff pairs, or
traces less than 5mils on those external layers.

Hi All, I was asked by one of our venders if they can start with 1oz
copper instead of .5oz copper and finish with 1.5oz on external
layers... is this Ok as far as getting proper plating in the barrels of
vias etc...?
