I knew exactly what it meant the first time I saw the term used in
PCD mag. Back in the "old days" metric parts and SMT were very rare.
Practically every feature on a PCB... except D-sub connectors...
fell on a 25 mil grid.

Any part that didn't place on grid was some sort of oddball that
didn't fit in with the rest of the world...
