Pratap,
Wrong again.
It is completely different than the introduction of SMT. Read my
postings on this subject in this forum two weeks ago.

Subject: Re: [LF] JCAA/JGPP Lead-Free Solder Project summary

Joe,

Thank you for your comments. It is always nice to hear your views.

As usual there is no clear cut winner (type of solder to be used) in
this debate. Each solder has shortfalls when all factors are considered.
EPA life cycle assessments (www.epa.gov/dfe) of SnPb vs. LF solder show
that each solder type has some impact on environment or human health. LF
solders may have slight edge when human cancer potential and aquatic
toxicity is considered.

Yes, the life of an assembly engineer has definitely become harder since
process windows are tighter, better process monitoring is needed on the
manufacturing floor, proper storage of components is a must etc. Being
an assembly engineer, I know the pain has increased. However, it is no
different than when the switch to SMT from PIH occurred in early
eighties.

The politics of the global economy is an entirely different subject
whether decisions are based on pure science or pseudo science. Like
other arguments, it seems world is divided - 50% for and 50% against.

Hope you have a good day.
