If you do not clean after soldering using any type of flux, including the no-clean, how do you know there may not be some other form of contamination present that is unrelated to the flux use; for example residue from the PWB processing, handling of the PWA, residue from component leads, etc. Is it not possible these could cause equipment operating problems, etc. Also, what is the problem cleaning PWAs that have no-clean flux? Are you saying that cleaning a no-clean flux will activate what may have been a benign flux? If so, is there test data available that suupports this?

I would agree with Steve. The Aquanox line has served us well at Rockwell
and we are converting over to the Kyzen Aquanox A4520 and are getting
excellent resuls. I am a proponent of aqueous cleaning since you get both
the dynamic action of pressurized spray, the thermal activity of hot wash
and rinse waters, and the chemical energy of a saponifier. For these
reasons, I would strongly recommend you stay away from any kind of vapor
degreasing and no-clean residues. Bad Karma.

I guess the more important question is why are you cleaning the low solids
flux residues and is the low residue paste designed to be cleanable? Very
  important questions.

  Hi Dan!

I've always had very good results cleaning no-clean residues with Kyzen
Aquanox 4512P in a batch cleaner. They have another formula for
lead-free residues, Aquanox 4630. They also have another formula
(Aquanox 4520) that I've not had a chance to use, that is supposed to be
better than the 4512P. You might want to give them a call...

  Folks,

I need to clean the residual residue left if any on boards processed
  with no clean paste.

What should one use. Any thoughts - is there a common chemical cleaner
  that can penetrate under components.

  Thanks in Advance

  Dan
