John,

Remember the nickel is Electroless.  It does not have "plating  density" as
electroplated deposits do.  It may plate faster or slower based  on catalytic
activity, but that effect should go away as soon as complete  coverage occurs.
Then, the nickel is autocatalytic on itself.  Also,  rememeber that the film
forming additives in electroplate baths for "leveling"  are not present the
same way with Electroless.
