Joe,
Good reply! I hesitated before answering due to the sensitivity of this
issue and my role in it. IMHO we are doing all the right things to
establish that the current equipment and all future equipment supplied
for the new generation aircraft meets or exceeds the existing acceptance
criteria, which reflects the performance and long term reliability
requirements of the Aerospace Industry. I will endeavor to persevere
that technical merit will win out over political expediency.

Subject: Re: [LF] EU Not Busting for RoHS Violations Yet
We're all working on "joint projects" if we want to stay in business.
Boeing is deeply involved in GEIA and other groups, along with the rest
of
us, in attempting to sort out this mess. That doesn't necessarily mean
that
any of us are committed to some cause, or a particular outcome.
We're trying to figure out what is true and what is workable. Many of
us
agree that there is little technical or environmental justification for
lead-free
electronics, but we have no choice but to ride this strange torpedo
until it
either gets where it's going, or blows up.
Now, the A-380 is already flying with electronics containing tin/lead
solder.
Changing those existing designs, if done right, will cost serious money.
And
given the questionable justification for making these changes, I have to
wonder
whether they will spend the money, or "qual by similarity", or whatever.
Of course, these are questions, not allegations, and I'm perfectly
willing to be
persuaded about Airbus's motives and methods.
