Attempts to stifle research whose findings differ from a political
position have happened for a long time. The Bush administration has
been guilty of these activities to a far greater extent than previous US
administrations. I expect future administrations to be less likely to
stifle research, but I expect the practice to continue.

I know of good people that had to leave NIST because their technical
findings
in an investigation did not align with the prevalent political view.
