BGAs are the most difficult to clean, due to the fact that the
solder joints are under the part. It may also be that the flux was not
fully activated. Perhaps the combination of the two.
        Just a thought

Pretty nice pictures Inge. I'm not knowledgeable at all of how to
interpret your pictures. Although there's something about your SEM
picture that catches my eye. I can't quite put my finger on it
though...something very strange about that image.

I have sent pictures on the residues to Steve. Unfortunately, I did not
have my ordinary microscope camera, will send better pics later.
Hmmm...Carbon Peak is too low for PbCO3..have to do FTIR..
You all give little pessimistic view of the situation. Maybe we had
better to replace the CBGAs with the residues...and hope there will be
no more.

The funny thing is that our factory in South Africa get such crystals
too, and they use different flux and different solder alloy.

Hmmmm.... It seems that lead solders might have another environmental
benefit, that is as a CO2 sink to help stem global warming... ;-)

(One must keep their humor in the ongoing lead-free fiasco... :-)
