I somewhat agree with the premise behind the Newark recommendation -
before each of the 50 states go forward and enact their own different
RoHS style legislation, the U.S. should have a national legislation that
covers this, for simplicity and standardization. 

It's been said before in this forum, and in light of the evidence,
perhaps the U.S. legislation should state "No lead-free electronic
products are to   sold in the U.S."
