Quintin is absolutely correct. Look at this as another opportunity
leveraged by market sectors to reverse the lead-in-solders ban within
the United States and, by implication, in the world.

I'm usually not one to support more laws, especially at the Federal
level, but if we have to go down this path anyhow, one federal
regulation would be much easier to deal with than 50 conflicting state
regulations. It would provide an opportunity to review and address the
more controversial aspects of the issue (the ban on lead, the need for
RoHS to begin with if WEEE is implemented properly, etc).

It might even help lay the framework for a more uniform global set of
regulations.

I would think pretty much every aspect of our industry would benefit.

Can't say I blame them. Why have 50 individual bad pieces of
legislation when you can have just one? If you can't stop them, you
might as well try to control them.

Or, seeing how the EPA has already looked at this and determined that
it's wrong, if there is a push for legislation at the federal level, the
investigation into it might lead to legislation that STOPS the states
from banning lead in electronics.
